The shekere is an ancient traditional percussion instrument of West Africa. Popular from Senegal to Nigeria, they are a central feature of traditional Ewe music. It was very enjoyable to make an instrument out of gourd. I used about 250 wooden beads. It sounds quite high volume. It is 8 inches high and 6 inches wide. Adorned with rainbow colors beads. Please feel free to ask for different colors and size.The handle I made from cotton prevents it from slipping out of your hand while playing. It can be easily removed if you don’t want to use it.
