Members of various county assemblies on Monday boycotted an address by Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, demanding President William Ruto’s presence at the 5th Legislative Summit 2025.

The summit, organised by the County Assemblies Forum, was set to begin in the morning, with lawmakers arriving at the venue by 8 a.m. in anticipation of the president’s attendance.

However, three hours later, Mvurya arrived alongside Principal Secretary Teresiah Mbaika, nominated Senator Veronica Maina, and politician Farah Maalim.

Chanting “No Ruto, no summit,” the lawmakers occupied the stage and took over the microphone. Efforts by event moderator Nimrod Taabu and Senator Maina to restore order were unsuccessful.

“Please, let us hear from the CS who has been sent. Let us hear him out,” said Taabu.

Amid the standoff, the event was placed on recess to allow organisers to consult and provide feedback after the break.

The lawmakers insisted they had pressing concerns only the president could address.
