Six killed in suspected Al-Shabaab attack in Garissa County

Six people have been killed in a suspected Al-Shabaab attack on a National Police Reservist (NPR) camp in Biyamadhow, Fafi Sub-county, Garissa County.

Police reports at the Hagadera Police Station indicate that four others were injured during the dawn attack.

 “At around 0530 Hrs suspected Al-Shabab militia attacked a National Police Reservist Camp and those injured were rushed to hospital,” the report read in part.

It was reported that the attackers stormed the camp using assorted weapons, and overran the camp in what is believed to be a well-coordinated assault.

“In response, a multi-agency security team, led by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), has launched an investigation into the incident,” authorities stated.

Security operations in the area have been intensified.

The attack comes five days after the U.S Embassy in Kenya issued a travel advisory alert urging its citizens not to travel to Kenya-Somalia border counties (Garissa, Wajir, Mandera), Tana River County, and coastal areas north of Malindi due to terrorism and kidnapping.

“Do not travel to West Pokot and western Turkana County due to banditry, the Nairobi neighborhoods of Eastleigh and Kibera are also not safe due to crime and kidnapping,” the advisory read in part.
