NACADA raids an illicit brewery in Kisii, confiscate 55,000 litres of kangara

National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) officials have confiscated over 55,000 litres of kangara and 500 litres of chang’aa in a sting operation in in Mwaguto Village, Kisii County. 

The multi-agency operation resulted in the arrest of five—three women and two men- dismantling a sophisticated brewing network operating on a four-acre property. 

NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa hailed the raid as a significant victory in the ongoing battle against illicit brews.

“This is a clear message to all those engaging in this illegal business—we are coming for you,” he warned.

Dr. Omerikwa also revealed plans to initiate legal proceedings to have the four-acre property forfeited to the government. 

“This property is a crime scene, and we will ensure it is reverted to the state as part of our efforts to dismantle these networks completely,” he stated.

Residents welcomed the crackdown, expressing relief over the closure of an illegal enterprise long blamed for fueling crime and destroying livelihoods.
