Contraband valued at more than Sh2.9 million has been uncovered in a sweeping crackdown on drug trafficking and illicit alcohol in Bondo, Siaya County.

Two people were arrested in connection with the haul during an operation led by a multi-agency team, including officials from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

According to NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, the raid marks a significant milestone in the ongoing national campaign against the illegal drug and alcohol trade.

“This operation marks a significant victory in our relentless war against drug abuse and illegal alcohol trade,” said Dr. Omerikwa during a press briefing.

The coordinated raid, conducted at the home, business premises, and rental properties of one of the suspects, yielded a substantial cache of contraband, including 4,600 sticks of suspected cannabis sativa.

Francis Odhiambo Ochieng and Everlyne Atieno Amungo were arrested during the operation and are being held at Bondo Police Station.

They are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.

The operation comes just a week after a KSh 8 million drug seizure in Kisii County, suggesting a growing nationwide crackdown on illegal substances.
