Carry your cross, ex-gov Orji fires back at Ikpeazu

Published:

A former Governor of Abia State, Senator Theodore Orji, has slammed his successor, Okezie Ikpeazu, for what he described as “careless statements” aimed at shifting blame, urging him to “carry his cross” and take responsibility for his tenure.

Orji was reacting to comments made by Ikpeazu at an event in Abuja, where the former governor reportedly described elected leaders who blame their predecessors as “lazy leaders.”

Ikpeazu had also said that he met Abia in a “gloomy state” when he assumed office in 2015.

In a statement issued through his former Liaison Officer and Senior Aide, Ifeanyi Umere, on Saturday, Orji described Ikpeazu’s comments as contradictory.

He faulted Ikpeazu for “in one breath, condemning leaders who criticise their predecessors, and in the other breath, criticising his predecessor”.

He added, “Ikpeazu should once again carry his cross and take responsibility for his actions and inactions instead of looking for who to blame as governance is not necessarily about making speeches.”
