The Economic Community of West African States has dispatched a technical mission to Guinea as part of ongoing efforts to assist the country in its transition back to constitutional governance.
The initiative, announced by ECOWAS Commission’s President, Omar Touray, in a statement issued by the commission on Monday, highlighted the regional body’s continued support for political stability and democratic restoration in Guinea.
The delegation is led by the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah.
According to the statement, the team arrived in Conakry and held meetings with Guinean authorities on April 10 and 11.
The discussions centered on the monitoring and implementation of a 10-point agreement previously signed between ECOWAS and Guinean officials.
The agreement outlines a detailed roadmap for the country’s return to democratic governance following a period of political transition.
The statement read, “The Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States, Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, has reaffirmed the regional organisation’s commitment to supporting Guinea in its transition process.
“As the head of the technical mission from ECOWAS dispatched to Conakry by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Touray, Amb. Musah and the members of his delegation held talks with several Guinean authorities on Thursday, 10 and Friday, 11 April 2025.
“Discussions between the ECOWAS Commission delegation and the various Guinean authorities focused in particular on monitoring the implementation of the agreement signed between the two parties on a ten (10) point timetable for the return to constitutional order.”
