The Israeli defence minister, Yoav Gallant, appeared to hint on Monday at a possible ground operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon, in a video statement during a meeting with commanders in northern Israel. Gallant told armoured corps troops near the border with Lebanon that Israel would do whatever it took to return its citizens to evacuated communities on its northern border safely.
